Single Review: Death Cult Electric – ‘Wishy Washy’

At some point in the not-so distant and hot recent history of bastardised fantasised hook-ups, Vince Neil lugged a slug of chewed spit and saliva into a glam-coloured rust covered slop bucket. A select few invited to do same. That mixed juice of Motley Crue, 80’s Matchbox, Bad for Lazarus, Fugazi and SHLUG, it had the good grace to mature like bad wine. That bad wine turned to hooch with the kick of White Lightning and gave us the gift of the sound of ‘Wishy Washy’… with all its notes of glam-agro and scum.

Brillo Pad blasted vocals, thorax thump guitars, drums that slam hard on each and every pound of flesh, this combo gives song its accelerant. And while damn it’s a rush of all things speed and scuzz, would you believe there’s some breathing room too?

Shaped like a miniature 80’s hair metal overture, noise turns to mess turns to hiss. Just as hiss turns to intellipunk grind. Throw in some thrash and the sweet smell of sweat (and worse), and soak up the zero fucks given. Embrace it. It’s your own sonic fight club.

Death Cult Electric have been featured before. And will no doubt be featured again. Through EPs and singles they’ve been consistently feral with a ‘tude that brings out every worst and best part of you. Go find ‘How To Sprint at Strangers’. Go dig up ‘Snakes and their Children’. Then make the speakers work as hard as they absolutely have to at the high volume that Death Cult deserve.
